Piano nobile on the Grand Canal with portego and private landing stage

The portego crosses the house from one facade to the other: eighteen metres of Venetian terrazzo flooring, with Gothic windows on the Grand Canal at one end and on the side canal at the other. On the piano nobile of this fifteenth-century palazzo the light comes from the water and casts reflections on the ceiling that move all day.

To either side open the salon with an Istrian-stone fireplace, the dining room and three en-suite bedrooms, all with their original painted beams restored. The new kitchen is bespoke in dark timber, with access to the service stairs.

From the water gate a flight of steps descends to the private landing stage; from the calle you ascend by a recent lift. The piano nobile is safe from high water, and the building has entrusted the upkeep of foundations and facades to a specialist firm.
